Chapter Ten
Easter quickly approached. Ginny stared down at the bonnet sheâd purchased for Eastertide and smiled. The last few days had been filled with fun, and she felt now more than ever that Colonel Elliot truly did want her as his wife as he was always thereâ¦come to think of it, so were her father and brothers. They went with them whenever they left the house.
She had a new wardrobe as Francesca had promised, and the new clothes came just at the right time as her family usually celebrated Easter with a new wardrobe for every family member. It was a tradition she had forgotten while married to Howard as heâd always been short on funds.
The bonnet was gaily decorated with flowers, a ribbon and a bow. Sheâd gone all out this year when buying the bonnet and had picked the happiest looking one in the shop.
She knew her grandmamma hadnât approved, but she didnât really care. Maybe it was a little too much, but as she was finally coming out of mourning she wanted to surround herself with the colours of spring, and Easter had always been one of her favourite holidays.
When the Colonel had seen her wearing it yesterday, he had looked delighted, and had told her that she was the loveliest lady on Rotten Row.
They were set to celebrate the holiday as a family, and Francesca had agreed that they would spend the time from Good Friday until Easter Sunday at Deville House, even Valentina, Henry, and the baby would be joining them.
Every day, she tried to figure out ways to get Colonel Elliot alone, but she was never short of chaperones, and it was starting to become extremely vexing!
Happily, she sat down on the edge of her bed and enjoyed being back in her old bedchamber. The one at Alton House was nice, but it didnât have the memories that this bedchamber contained.
She and Valentina had so many good times here talking about their future. She thought back to the night when sheâd encouraged Valentina to let Henry court her. Maybe, Valentina was right. Maybe she had to stop pushing Colonel Elliot away and let him court her.
The only question was, was she really ready to become his wife? She could still hear Howardâs voice, and sometimes, when she concentrated hard enough, she could feel his touch as well.
She sighed, stood up and went over to look at herself in her mirror. She looked as if a weight had been lifted off her. Finally, colour was creeping back into her cheeks, and her eyes didnât look quite as sad as they had once looked.
Mayhap, Gideonâs presence in her life was pulling her back from the edge.
A series of knocks on her door, made her jump. She sighed.
âYes?â she called out.
âItâs me,â Clarence said.
As she was dressed in a white muslin morning gown for breakfast, she went to her bedchamber door and opened it.
Clarence looked a little furtive.
âI want to go down for breakfast but I dare not go alone.
